The Natural Way to Better Prostate Health

Prostate health has leapt to the forefront of the public's awareness recently, spurred on by advertisements for prescription drugs to reduce enlarged prostates. But these drugs can have unwelcome side effects; they're also expensive. The good news is, there are things you can do naturally to improve your prostate health and either reduce your risk of prostate cancer or else prevent it altogether. These natural methods are inexpensive, and not only do they help improve prostate health, they also improve your overall health.

The first, and the one no one wants to hear, is exercise. Daily exercise is crucial to good health, and that includes good prostate health. It need not be strenuous exercise; a brisk forty five minute walk will do the trick, as long as you stick with it and do it daily. Also, drink plenty of water. You should drink eight to ten glasses per day; that's 64 to 80 fluid ounces, if you want to be more precise. Plenty of water is crucial to keeping the prostate, bladder, and kidneys working the way they're supposed to. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and keeping up your body's health through exercise and water will reduce your risk of prostate cancer, tame the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, and lead to better prostate health.

You should know that caffeine and alcohol are diuretics; they pass fluids through your body much more rapidly, and can cause mild to moderate dehydration if you aren't careful to drink your daily requirement of water. Most of us won't notice the difference if we grab a cup of coffee instead of a glass of water, but if you are an older man or you have an enlarged prostate, opting for a glass of water instead of a glass of wine can reduce the symptoms of enlarged prostate and improve overall prostate health, especially if you avoid alcohol and caffeine late at night.

Saw palmetto is the best known of natural remedies for prostate health, but it has its dangers. You should never take saw palmetto if you are also taking prescription or over the counter medications for your prostate. Interactions between herbal supplements and drugs can be dangerous or even deadly. If you are taking medication for your prostate, and you want a natural way to boost prostate health, look instead at vitamin supplements; recent studies have shown that daily doses of vitamins E and C may help reduce your risk of prostate cancer by as much as twenty three percent. Plus, the supplements lead to better overall health as well; these two vitamins in particular fight free radicals, which are a major cause of signs of aging, such as wrinkles or age spots.

Remember that a healthy body means a healthy prostate, and the key to good prostate health is to keep your body in tiptop shape through exercise, proper drinking habits, and vitamins and minerals.
