Can Prostate Vitamins Reduce Your Risk of Prostate Cancer?

Cancer is one of those things that everyone wants to prevent, but no one is quite sure how to. For men, one of the most common cancers is prostate cancer. Preventing prostate cancer is, or should be, high on any man's list, especially as they age and become more suceptible to various cancers. Recent studies have shown that certain vitamins, known collectively as "prostate vitamins", may help decrease your likelihood of getting prostate cancer. This is good news for everyone, especially those who are health conscious and eager to keep themselves and their bodies in top form for as long as possible.

The first of these prostate vitamins, vitamin C, acts as a tonic vitamin. It works with your entire body to strengthen and support vital functions, and taking daily doses of vitamin C will result in an all around healthier body. It also works to combat free radicals within the body, which lead to many of the symptoms of aging, including wrinkles and organ health. And vitamin C is the safest of the prostate vitamins; taking more than the recommended daily dose, while not a good idea, won't harm you, unlike certain other essential vitamins and minerals. It also boosts your immune system, making you less suceptible to colds and flus and other illnesses; twice the punch in a single prostate vitamin!

The next prostate vitamin is vitamin E; sometimes known as 'the skin care vitamin' for its healthy and restorative benefits on the skin. But vitamin E has many other benefits; like vitamin C, it combats free radicals in the body, to slow the aging process and the natural decline of the human body. It also works with the body's natural functions (rather than suppressing them, like many over the counter medications do) and its benefits go beyond reducing the risk of prostate cancer; vitamin E can help with everything from wrinkles to age spots to acne. More importantly, it, like fellow prostate vitamin C, may help reduce your risk of prostate cancer by as much as 23 per cent.

The last prostate vitamin isn't really a vitamin at all, but a mineral; zinc, the main ingredient in Cold-Eze and other cold prevention medicines. However, it's included with the prostate vitamins because it also comes in supplement form, and when it comes to actual cancer prevention, zinc ranked higher than either vitamin C or vitamin E in cancer prevention, with 45 percent compared to the 23 percent for vitamin C and vitamin E.
